What kind of compression?

Post by Brolli411 » Mon Aug 26, 2002 2:31 pm

Ok, after buying the new XXX Soundtrack, I found some songs I wanted to rip from it to my computer. As I was doing this I looked at the size of the songs, thinking they would be outrageously large....But they were only about 4 Kb....o.- Ither I am inferrior or...What. I always thought they were .WAV format.

what you are lookinga at are just shortcuts to the actual songs..
what I suggest is you get some music ripping program like Musicmatch...or....well..whatever other one you can find.there are many...and most are freeware, that will get the job done....=).....I promise..
if you need more help with this....let me know......if my post was completely useless and I misunderstood your question, then slap me in the ass and call me Fred....

I think you were just looking at the table of contents on the disc. The actually songs on the disc or in .wav format, but if you just look at the disc in the explorer, you only see the table of contents. Which is why you can't just drag and drop files from the disc. You have to have a ripper to get them........

I think that answered your question, but I might be way off....

Where's ErMaC, or jbone, or AD when you need them???

Digital Dojo and shadow13 are correct. You have not actually ripped the CD, windows has just made links to the tracks. CDs contain uncompressed audio waveform data. In order to rip them properly you need to get the proper software. Personally I recommend Ogg Vorbis over MP3, so I suggest you find a ripper that supports that format.

To actually rip the wav's, try usingEAC or CDEX.

Then convert to the format of your choice. ogg vorbis or monkey's audio can sound great, but using the LAME encoder to convert to mp3 is going to offer the mos compatibility, and still sound good, if you use high quality settings like --alt preset extreme.

there is no compression.....those are just shortcuts to hidden files...
use the ripping programs to get the songs out, you can't copy and paste, or drag.....rip the songs...-_-....
