Best rock album ever?

Postby Chef » Fri Oct 17, 2003 10:01 pm

in my opinion...Led Zeppelin II. its arranged perfectly, a good mix of blues and rock, has some of their best stuff, and is a perfect mix of rock and blues.

other opinions? rebuttals? (hehheh...butt)

Pailhead - Trait (yeah, I know it's an EP, not really an album)

Queen- pick one. For me, it's 'A Night at the Opera', but many of them are excellent.

best rock album out there ...

Pink Floyd - Pick eithe Dark side of the moon or the wall.

Radiohead - Kid A or Amnesiac

King Crimson - ITCOKC ... an essential KC album, but also the only one i own ... i just don't get tired of listening to it.

Tool - Aenema was good, but Undertow was better, less "filler".

Led Zepplin - Zepplin 4, runes, sticks ... whatever you want to call that album ... even though it's the only official album i've ehard end to end it's still a very good album.

Joe Satriani - surfing with the Alien ... one of my favorite instrumental albums.

Jeff Beck - Wired ... This is probably my favorite instrumental album ... Beck owns.

Queen or Blind Guardian's A Night at the Opera

Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here or Dark Side of the Moon

John Lennon's Imagine

Led Zeppelin's American Graffiti or IV

Tool's Aenema

Black Sabbath's Paranoid

Dream Theater's Scenes From a Memory

Gordian Knot's Emergent (best instrumental group I've heard)

Savatage's Poets and Madmen

Metallica's Kill 'em All

Radiohead's OK Computer

The Beatles' Abbey Road

That's all I can think of right now.

Well, really, let's hope this is just a 'favorites' thread - no such objective thing as THE ONE

Sgt. Peppers... :)

Queen II (at least, that's my favorite among their works)

although my pick for THE ONE would be

***

King Crimson - Red (1974)

even despite the fact that it comes up only 3rd on my list of favorite KC's 'studio' albums.

Perfect blend of raw hard rock/metal groove and avant-garde with awe-aspiring Wagner-esque tragedy, against the background of a desperate emotional state of its' prime creator. 5 tracks - a metal-ish instrumental scorcher (Red), a 90's-sounding power ballad (Fallen Angel), a hard-rock pounder (One More Red Nightmare), followed by an avant-garde improv (Providence) and the indescribeable 12-minute genius that is Starless. Really, a worthy contender. A shame the original band never got to play the first 3 tracks live.

***

My personal favorite 'studio' rock album is, however, KC's Starless and Bible Black (also 1974) (which most would consider a very wierd choice).

In general, I also prefer live records to studio albums.

Led Zep II - mad props. Great album through and through.

no one's doubting your incompetance jace. We can all see that.
(j/k)

but jace is right. Best and favorites are almost synonomus. so this is pretty much just a favorite rock album thread. So far it's a pretty good one too.

IV wasn't as consistently good, no, but it had two songs that I like better than any song on II. I guess I'd say that II is a better album, but I like IV more.
