Does anyone here collect or know about English anime MP3s ?

Postby aclminmei » Fri Oct 03, 2003 8:19 pm

I've been collecting and searching for some various English versions of the original anime theme songs (most of which are done by the same singers, but in different style).

Not many otaku (unless you're from Japan) know about this, and that it's been going on for quite some time. You may be surprised or just ticked off over it.

Some Examples of which songs are directly done in English. The original title is given, while the applicable bracketed name is the English version).

(Note: Funimation is the ONLY company to do English songs in ALL its DVD series, but the DBZ OP theme is their own). We won't mention shows like Initial D, Project A-ko 1, dothack, and Yami no Matsuei since some of their songs are ACTUALLY English-only.

Inu-Yasha: Change the World, My Will, Fukai Mori (Deep Forest), Minna no Kimochi (Every Heart).
Escaflowne (series/movie): Yubiwa (You're Not Alone), Tomodachi (My Best Friend).
Gundam Wing: Just Communication, Rhythm Emotion, In Your Dreams.
Slayers: Get Along (Power of Infinity), Give A Reason (Brave Souls), Breeze (Fair Wind)
Cutey Honey: OP Theme song
Macross Plus: Voices
Tenchi Muyo series: Quite many of those

Know any other English anime songs you may not know about ?

Hmm....well I don't specifically know any from Anime besides the Rythym Emotion song from Gundam...(tis on my playlist)....

But:

Utada Hikaru ~ Fly me to the moon (I realize it wasn't originally japanese (yay for Frank) but it's pretty all the same...I like it better than megumi Hayashibara's version...)

And then there's the English version of Dreams Come True by SES...

Hmm...I have horrible mutilated versions of the rayearth songs in English (by different artists...tis crap...)

Yuzurenai Nagai ~ Unyeilding Wish
Hikari to Kage wo Dakishimeta ~ Embracing the light and dark...

That helpfull at all?? *cough* WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR LIST??? *cough*

There is also an english version of Meeting on the Planet :P
The Gundaw Wing english versions are some of the best I've heard.

Adesso E Fortuna - Eternity
Escaflowne - Your not alone
Escaflowne - I recommend instincts

There is also a lot of tenchi muyo music, but they are all low quality, crappy english voices.

No one in japan refers to themselves as otaku. If you ever refer to yourself as an 'otaku' while you're in japan, you will be ridiculed for being a stupid foreigner. Kinda like the Japanese and their engrish. Not gonna lecture on japanese grammar, just a word of warning in case you ever do go there or meet someone from japan.

most of us know this ... Otaku carries a negatice conotation in japan, while here in NA people tend to wear it as a badge of honor ... talk aobut mis interpretation.

I have all of the soudntracks related to pretty much every Macross series, and there was on horrible album called "English Fire" that took songs from Macross 7, translated them into English, and then were performed with such disregard for aesthetic pleasure that I got a terminal illness from listening to it. It's the only CD I've ever bought that I threw away.

Viz created Doco USA, which did two of the Doco songs for the Ranma 1/2 OAV. They did Us After This and Red Shoe Sunday. Definetely two of the best english adaptations ever made.

Animeigo for the dub version of Bubble Gum Crisis originally had an English singer (I forgot her name). She sung Say Yes! well enough for me to go and get the BGC soundtrack. There was only Japanese.

It's hard for me to call the Slayers songs listed as adaptations, because they are not in anyway translations of what the Japanese lyrics were.

The Two Mix songs (Gundam Wing) in English exist because the group tried to go international a few years ago and the songs are from the international version of bpm. I don't think the venture did too well.

Now, is there a Japanese version of Fly Me to The Moon? :)

Funimation's animation re dubs op/ed in English, like you mentioned.
Besides the ones mentioned, Key the Metal idol(beautiful English language op, btw) and Wolf's Rain have English version op/ed.

Naruto's end theme, Wind, is in Engrish. Does that count? :?

Actually, no! Otaku-dom is climbing there as well. I think they're picking up on our liking of the usage of the term to describe ourselves as colossal anime fans.

I'm pretty sure the opening theme to Beserk is in English.... well.... Engrish would be a more accurate way of describing it....it's only coz of the subtitles that you know what he's saying, hehe...
