Jazz

Well here, I'm going to test Sarah's theory and start a non punk, metal and whatever-the-other-genre-was thread.

Anyone here listen to Jazz? If so post your fav artists.

I just got into this one singer named Heather Banbrick, she's fairly new (and Canadian from Newfoundland I believe), she's got an awesome pitch to her voice. I can't remember the other group she was with, she just struck out on her own a little while ago.

Anyways let's test the theory!

I listen to all sorts of jazz on occasion. From Joe Pass' or Scofield's classical jazz guitar, to John Mclaughlin(Mahavishnu)'s fusion jazz, to Bill Bruford's jazz percussion... really, a lot. Django Reinhardt has been an item I've been enjoying lately as well...

I think it would be rather dumb and unappreciative for even the toughest metalhead or proggie to fail in recognition of the importance of jazz music on every contemporary genre, and especially on the development of modern guitar practice...

True enough!

and listening to my jazz band in high school.

Awesome! Does your school allow for flutes? I'm trying to convince my beloved music teacher that she should allow some flutes into her jazz ensemble....

My suggestion is to come to Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, CT. We have a jazz band in our school, and they're the BEST school music we have. Seriously, though! :P

We have flutes, it's just impossible to hear them over the brass and saxes unless the flutes have a sectional or individual solo. How can you have a jazz ensemble without flutes?

Hey, you went to Holy Cross? I went to Hall High School (public) in West Hartford. Ever hear about our show Pops N' Jazz? (the song to my amv is from Pops N' Jazz) Or about how terrible our football, basketball, and hockey teams were?

Sorry. I never heard about this. Probably your school is not part of our community league. My school probably went against your school in basketball during those all state tornements.

Charles Mingus and John Coltrane get played a lot on my stereo, as well as new acts like The Bad Plus. :-)
