Unoriginality Exposed: Favorite Bands/Artists

Postby Evil Urchin » Wed Aug 20, 2003 12:49 am

Well, I went back 5 or so pages and I didn't see a single favorite bands topic, so I said to hell with it and started a new one. Just list your favorites in whatever order you feel like, however many you want, and remember that I am a lazy bastard who seems to enjoy cluttering up forums with the most obvious of topics

Anyway, enough self depreciation, onto the bands, which I have in top 10 order:

1. King Crimson
2. Pink Floyd
3. KMFDM
4. Killing Joke
5. The Jimi Hendrix Experience
6. Yoko Kanno
7. Daisuke Ishiwatari
8. Dead Kennedys
9. Cracker
10. Roxy Music
Kawaita hitomi de dareka na itekure -The Real Folk Blues, Yoko Kanno
I like it! -Indiscipline, King Crimson
If you wanna touch the sky, you must be prepared to die, and I hate cough syrup don't you? -Cough Syrup, Butthole Surfers

Because I thought that hadn´t made it out yet. I used to like these guys quite a bit.

I have trouble with these lists. I listen to a lot of stuff, but not all of it comes near being my favorites. A lot of my favorites are what people consider 'old'. So, let's try:

King Crimson (all eras to varying degrees of obsession)
Frank Zappa (vast majority of his stuff)
Captain Beefheart (his early and late 'uber-weird' albums)
Joe Satriani (virtually everything)
Gentle Giant (Most of the earlier albums)
Peter Gabriel (A number of solo albums)
David Sylvian (w/ Fripp, haven't heard much of his other stuff)

That's uh... top 7? But, mind you, I listen to lots of other stuff - a lot of classic rock, a bit of jazz, a bit of classics, a bit of world music - but I can't say I'm overtly obsessed with a lot of other bands as much as the above-listed.

As in a lot of other things, my personality is a problem - in music, I'm obsessively 'monogamous'. King Crimson takes up a lot of my listening. It isn't that I'm no longer open-minded to other music, but it does mean that I have a hard time from putting one of their records on (which I have TONS of) - it's just too fun/engaging/deep/awe-aspiring.
