My mom thinks I have good musical taste, because I like alot of different music, and I know what's good, and I stay away from that crap like Manson, Tool, Slipknot, etc.

Sir - uncool. VERY uncool. You do not EVER bring your mom's opinion into a discussion. I'm sure she's a lovely woman and all, but her opinion means jack squat. Why? Because, if she's a good mother, she's biased in your favor - valuable to you, certainly, but worthless otherwise.

And I'd exclude Tool from that list. They're not my cup of tea, but I can recognize artistry over gimmickry.

RamonesFan2020204 wrote:My mom said there was an interview with Paul McCartney once where he was asked WHAT KIND of music he liked, and he said "Good music", and I like "Good music" too.

But what Sir Paul likes isn't necessarily what YOU like. What you like isn't necessarily what I like. What I like isn't necessarily what Jace likes. It's subjective. We all like good music - because good music is good in our heads.

RamonesFan2020204 wrote:Manson, Fear Factory, Tool, NIN, and Slipknot and all the other bands like that aren't "Good music", they're "Bad music".

Define "bad music". Then explain why it's bad music. Use convincing logic, arguments, and evidence to support this position.

Fear Factory was good hard rock. Better than most bands nowadays. Listen to "Resurrection". Starts out slow and moody, then turns into one of the most awesome, feel good power rock songs ever. It has a hopeful sound to it.

RamonesFan2020204 wrote:How anyone can like bands like Manson, NIN and the other ones I mentioned that fall under their category is really sad.

What's really sad is that you still haven't given an opinion based around concrete reasoning. There's a difference between good and bad music, and good and bad ideas expressed in music. Maybe if you set out a range of criteria that you use to determine what separates good music from bad music, maybe we could better understand where you're coming from. And saying, "Anything before that new rock crap", doesn't cut it, because there was plenty of shitty music in every era.

Oh, and like Kthulu said already; it doesn't matter a damn here what your mom thinks about the music you listen to. Although it does bring up the interesting question of exactly how old you are, which is something I've never considered before...
Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.
And lighten up.

Number 1 is entirely subjective, just because it is music you do not like, does not mean it's bad music. If I went around claiming that Bach, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky sucked horribly as musicians and composers just because I wasn't a big fan of classical music, would that make me right? Does my opinion automatically make them "Bad"? Or am I just being a self-absorbed dick who is trying to shove my opinions into the faces of others?

2. Fall victim to? Are you afraid that this music is going to corrupt you in some way? Are evil thoughts going to creep into the brains of all who listen to the "Devil Music"?

You're a troll aren't you? Just here to raise the hairs on our collective necks?

Hey, I respect my mother. She's one of the nicest people I know. She has good visions on certain things. She warned me about Marilyn Manson and NIN, and how bad they are when I was 10 or 11 years old, and I've taken her advice since then. And I'm not 13, I'm 17, so I'm STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL! Rock isn't supposed to be about depression and suicide, it's supposed to be about partying, having a good time, love, and some other stuff. My mother has a good vision on certain things. While I'm sure she doesn't like EVERYTHING I like, she still thinks I have good taste. I wanna be an caring and loving person that wants to grow to be an old man and go to heaven when he dies, I don't wanna be some heroin addict that listens to garbage like Manson, Tool, NIN, Fear Factory, etc.

Still not very good reasoning. And how will you fall victim to satanic music? Worship Satan from its bad influence? If so, better be careful with the anime - a lot of it has questionable content, and is of a sketchy moral character.

Offtopic, but can ANYONE spell my name right? Cut and paste, if need be.

I listen plenty of hard music, and I don't smoke anything, shoot up, take pills, drink heavily, shit like that. Lots of people are like me. Lots of people have the same goal you do. I suspect you're a Christian - a lot of Christian sects believe that you can do bad things, be an atrocious crud, and if you find redemption and walk the good path before you die, you can still go to heaven.

People like Carla Faye Tucker in Electric Texas, who claimed to orgasm when she murdered several people and was sentenced to death. Pat Robertson of all people protested this sentence, on the grounds that she "found Christ" and hence should not be executed, but instead should get life in prison. Regardless of one's views on the death penalty, "finding God" should not absolve you from a sentence (and thankfully it didn't).

So try to rock out, do your own thinking, and don't worry about life too much - after all ,the God that can't rock out probably isn't much fun to be with  .

There is nothing wrong with respect. I respect the hell out of my parents for putting up with my brother and I's crap for the past 27 years. Hell long after we've both moved out they still put up with us for who knows what reason. But my respect for my parents does not mean I'm going to use their opinion on my tastes in any argument as it's not relevant, as nice a person as your mom might be, her opinion doesn't mean dick here.

High school eh? You go to public school?

The kind of music you like does not change who *YOU* are, you can be all the loving and caring person you want to be while rocking out to Manson, or NIN, or whatever other Industrial, hard rock, stuff you want.

When the international coalition of Rock comes by and makes you the international rock czar, perhaps then you can comment on rock is supposed to be about, until then you have your opinion, and quite franky it's rather sad of you to believe that you somehow know what rock is about especially since it has existed much longer than you have.

I must be behind, I listen to alot of those bands, and ones like them, and by god I haven't had my obligatory heroin addiction.
