used cd store = rox

Why pay full price?
Most new albums are there within a week or so once people have listened to the cd and realized it sucks/gotten sick of it/burned it.

i did that a couple of times.

i bought Zwan - "Mary star of the sea" like that, and i'm glad i did to. I also picked up the "Honestly" single, though that wasn't as good of an investment ... but i can't complain for 5$.

Scratches?

The used cd's I've picked up have little to no playback affecting scratches. I guess some stores don't treat CD's when they get them in. The one I go to won't buy a CD unless it looks good and plays correctly. I'd think resurfacing would be common practise in used CD stores, but I guess it isn't. The one I buy from resurfaces every CD they get and they've saved my CD's numerous times from being chucked and bought again.

Two bucks to resurface a messed up cd is the best deal you can possibly get.

I've only gotten burned once on a used CD...Sepultura's _Chaos AD_.

Some fuckface hit it on the playing surface with a permanent marker, and the store didn't check to see if it was damaged when they bought it off him. When the screaming starts on track 7, I just open the CD player up manually.

No other problems with scratches, though. And I buy a ton of CDs used, it's about the only way to get catalog material from bands like Sodom and Death.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

I have bought a few random CDs not many of them were good for repeated listening.
Conemelt - 24 Carat Conemelt, This was probably the best one, I listened to it alot before it got stolen.
Fudge Tunnel - The Complicated Futility of Ignorance, Couldn`t be fucked trying to figure out if I liked it or not so I never listened to it again.
Various Artists - Subpop, Haven´t even bothered listening to it, looks crap.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Don´t know the title I just bought it because the cover was done by HR Giger, I am too scared to listen to it incase it is crap.

These are the only ones that I have bought without knowing what the music was like but there are a lot more CDs which I have bought because I have heard that the band are good without actually hearing them or that I have heard only one song and bought an album which the song isn´t even on.

I've bought a few good faith cds.

Elvenkings Heathenreel was probably one of my best pickups ever. I love the band, I love the music, and the guys are incredible.

Picked up Freternia's Warchants and Fairytales (Now out of print, I just ordered a second copy of it just because) on good faith too. I had heard part of one song. I got the cd and played it, and without a doubt, they are one of my favorite bands to this day.

Also picked up Pagan's Mind's Infinity Divine because they're at progpower this year, and I liked a few songs I had downloaded. Turns out the CD is kind of bland and never really caught my interest.
Ploink! Magic Cupcake! Elvenking. I'm sorry, I can't hear you over how awesome I am.

Emerson Lake and Palmer is crap. The cover is cool though. But a nasty nasty trick.
If nothing else, harsh noises get your attention.

ack ... i forgot about my biggest random CD purchase ... a while ago i walked into Sunrise records and i noticed they were having a 2 for 35$ deal on radio head albums, so i wound u spending about 52$ and walked out with Kid A, Amnesiac, OK Computer and The Bends. That was my best random purchase, then yesterday i bought hail to the theif, so far it sounds like a pretty good album, but i didn't get to hear most of it since i played it while i was sleeping.

I don´t want to doubt your spontaneity but I fail to believe that buying Radiohead is random in so much as everybody knows what Radiohead is like. I´m not sure about other people here but when I consider a purchase random it is when I don´t think about what I am buying and just pick something with the coolest name or cover.
