New Metal Bands: Got it or not?

Postby DevilSanosuke » Wed Jun 25, 2003 3:15 pm

Hey maggots; open place of discussion. New Metal bands been entering the business these past few months. I want to know what you all think; do they have what it takes to be considered classics, or do the classics still beat out these new bands?

( Also if anyone can tell me how to add pictures and other stuff, I'd greatly appreciate it; Email is DestroyerDemon22@Hotmail.com; AOL Screen Name is DevilSanosuke. Thanks!)

Yes, I do think that Corporation 187, Shadows Fall, and Carnal Forge have a legitimate chance at staying around, pumping out some more quality music at high levels of exposure, and making a difference to the scene and to music at large.

On the off chance that you meant NU-metal rather than new METAL bands, the answer is no. They all bite. Any one of the three old death/thrash monsters that have revived over the past six months (Suffocation, Vital Remains, and Body Count) could devour them all without burping.

I just can't get into Mudvayne. I don't see anything particularly special about them.

Linkin Park, on the other hand...

I actually think Mudvayne is pretty good. I can't get a feel for any other bands in this "genre" though.

not really metal, and not new at all, but converge is always fun. Thrashy hardcore with screams that would make the devil himself proud.

New Metal

Postby Naveed » Fri Jun 27, 2003 2:11 am

I believe new metal in itself is going downhill, I think it merging with hardcore music will be its future. Bands like Slayer Sepultura and that elk of metal had the right idea about 10 years ago and bands today like Hatebreed, From Autumn To Ashes, and Poison the Well pick up that slack. Even bands that aren't considered metal still pay homage to it like boysetsfire, technically they use a lot of power metal riffs with the fast strumming and palm mutting and the such.

I don't know why, but I dislike the majority of these new "metal" bands.
Gimme some classics, and I'll be ok.

I'm hoping the "new" Fear Factory kicks ass, but we'll just have to wait and see.
