Greatest drummers of all time

Postby BigshotSpike » Sat Jun 07, 2003 10:21 pm

Here are the ones I think can't be topped:

Danny Carey (Tool)
Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins, Zwan)
Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment)
Yoshiki Hayashi (X-Japan)
Shinya (Dir En Grey)
Nick Mason (Pink Floyd)
Keith Moon (The Who)
Neil Peart (Rush)
Ringo Starr (Beatles)

Thomen Stauch (Blind Guardian)
Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, LTE, Offices of Strategic Influence)

And I'll let Nailz get the other one that I would've listed.

Oh, and I might disagree with Lars. He was technical, but not all that great. On St. Anger, he starts using double bass pretty well, but he's still not great. :? Regardless, I guess it is your opinion. I do agree with most of your drummers though, heh. I think Portnoy and Stauch are simply the greatest though. But I'm liking Hayashi more and more...

Oh yes, but as far as other drummers I like, I'd certainly list guys like
Bill Rieflin
Danny Carey
Pat Mastelotto...

Certainly very worthy guys, each with their own style. Personally, my favorite drummer is Mastelotto, but I wouldn't call him THE greatest of all time.

Similarly, I wouldn't call Ringo Starr a great drummer at all - but a more-than-sufficient drummer perfectly fit to the Beatles - yes sir. Noone better for that job.
