The vocals... you can't define as either power or progressive, but the lyrics are much more similar to power metal than they are to progressive.

Barlow is much more Prog. than he was power. He mixed it up quite a bit, but overall, progressive.

Overall, you bring up good points, but Iced Earth really does mix it up very well between progressive and power...fuck, just listen to Dante's Inferno...vocally and musically, this is progressive at it's best! Some of the new stuff from Glorious Burden (the reckoning) is pretty technical.

Iced Earth is very diverse and I can see where you're coming from, but I wouldn't call them Power Metal and leave it at that. They are pretty progressive as well. But who cares? All that matterts is that they fuckin' rule.

Throw an insult, and then when proven wrong, don't bother standing up for your original comment, but back right the fuck off. What a pussy you are.

Iced Earth sucks. Most, if not all, Prog Bands suck though.

Perhaps. If you can prove i'm wrong, I'm all for it. I hate Iced Earth, I hate Dream Theater, I hate SX (unless live) .. so ..

Evergrey.

Case closed. I don't normally like prog metal either (Dream Theater has made me fall asleep, I want to hit Destiny's End with a baseball bat, etc), but this band is a stark exception. Sort of like Symphony X except unilaterally dark.

And if this doesn't convince you, then this will. Some may get picky about this kind of classification, but since _Politics..._ atleast they have been firmly prog-thrash, and the new CD, much like _DHIADW_, absolutely kills.

I'm not a big fan of Evergrey either. I think they had one good song. I managed to download a bunch of their stuff and was actually quite bored with it. I'll check out Nevermore though, I do believe I've done so in the past and liked them a bit.

Nevermore is a seriously cool band. They're about the heaviest metal you can get without growly vocals. I guess calling them prog would be a little bit of a stretch, but thrash-prog works nicely. And, yeah, EoR is amazing.

And Nailz, prog (either metal or rock) bands don't suck, you just don't like 'em. Jerk. :?

No, I stand believe Iced Earth is PROG., but Flint brought up good points about them being POWERMETAL. All I simply said was that IE mixes it up well, but overall they are progressive. Burnt Offerings, Dante's Inferno, Last December, FUCKIN' FULL ON PROGRESSIVE! Dracula, The Reckoning (VOCALLY), Almost ANYTHING from horror show, POWER METAL.

You want another insult? You're a fucking moron that likes to spew bullshit and then like to make ignorant assumptions. You don't like prog? That's fine, but don't be a moron and insult everyone that likes it.

Nevermore...fuckin' awesome band. Thrash-Prog? hhmm, well, they're not fast enough to be thrash...They're just weird, but really good.

First of all, you're the one who first insulted ME. I did not insult anyone who likes prog. If I did anything, I insulted the genere itself. Not it's fans. You like prog metal? Thats fine, good for you, I personally, would just rather listen to something worth while.

They make pills for paranoia, you know.

Well, you did say it sucks/not worthwhile. Suppose wording it differently might have been a bit more understandable/unoffensive.

That's alright though, I think I understand what you're implying.
Heck, still, if Prog (objectively) sucked - I'd have pretty much nothing left to listen to.

But really man, prog metal is broad enough, but when you throw in something like prog rock into the mix - really, making harsh statements about it is just unrealistic. It's as diverse as music gets.

And yet, that would not be my style. =P I can't stand prog stuff, like I said, thats my opinion. You listen to it? Fine. I think it's garbage. I cant stand the Repetitive low guitars, and the style of vocals. Barlow might have been the best singer ever, but I want to crack him in the face with a hot iron because of his whiny voice in iced earth. I can't stand dark, whiny music. Thats more or less why I hate prog.

So why do I hate dream theater? Because they're very unorganised, musically, to my ear. I'm not a music major, I don't know anything about time signatures, I've never been in a band. I can't appreciate music made for people that have, and only people that have.

Repetitie low guitars? eh?

Well, maybe you and me have different ideas as to what prog is. To me, prog is mainly prog rock, a movement that started in the late 60's and flourished through the 70's (also known as art rock, which included many bands with massive musical differences between them: i.e. Jethro Tull, Yes, ELP, Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, etc.) and then spilled out into other grounds (like prog-pop) and influenced a new generation of musicians (mainly prog-metal), thus still going on today. Prog rock itself largely died before the start of the 80's (as in, stopped it's evolution), prog-pop is also largely extinct, but prog metal is currently going strong.

Some prog bands don't/didn't even feature guitarists. Some don't even have vocalists (all instrumental), or have vocals that are completely out of the rock idea of vocals.

My understanding is, your view of prog is largely confined to a certain area of the new generation of prog-metal. My view of prog is quite different. I don't even have any Dream Theater or Iced Earth in my record collection.

So don't knock prog. Prog (to some) is a lot more than what you see it as.
