Too Much of A Good Thing

Postby Jamee » Fri Jul 26, 2002 1:25 am

I've been a country music fan for many years now. I've always liked to listen to it. But recently, my car broke down, and the replacement car's radio only really picks up a country station. Then I started working at the Dollar Tree, and the only station they play is that same country station!! Auugh!!!! I'm starting to hate country music now! If I hear that damn Kenny Chesney song "The Good Stuff" one more time I cannot be held responsible for my actions. And why must they play so much Alan Jackson?!?!? Why the heck can't they play some Mary Chapin Carpenter?!?!

It's Karma. I used to have a radio, then we had to remove the battery for my car to get a new one now the radio doesn't work. Now I hate my own humming because I've done it so much to kill time while driving.

Country wouldn't be so bad if..

1. they were all dead.
2. every single one of their songs didn't have something to do with lovers.
3. every single one of their songs didn't sound exactly the same.
4. someone uninvented the country-style guitar.
5. the women who sing most of the songs didn't have the most annoying voice in the world.

I don't like country music, but I don't bash those who do (I live in AZ. They're likely to shoot ya out here if you bash country music O_o). I feel for ya Jamee...I hate hearing the same style of music over and over and over (Why I stopped listening to the damned radio)

And it could be worse. The radio sation could play nothing but Linkin Park. *shudders at the idea*

So my advice, stop listening to the radio. Worked for me.

Good idea. I think I'll "accidently" break the radio at work too. :D

Go listen to some Johnny Cash. I just picked up a 'Best of' CD by him and it's not typical country (most of it). I can't refute number 5 at all though, they do have the most annoying voices this side of the universe.

Also, I didn't listen to country either, until my girlfriend forced me to. Not all of it is that bad. I don't listen to it voluntarily, but I don't mind if it's on.

Steve Earle and Johnny Cash are worth listening to, IMO.

Modern pop country is awful though.

Sorry for ressurecting a long dead thread, but it seems worthwhile.

So, would you, or has anybody, put together an AMV around a country-western song? I don't think I've ever seen one, unless you count that "Canyonero" video.

I'm working on a Hank Williams AMV right now...

And I've done one to Goober & The Peas.

Country wasn't bad before it went pop in the 90's and started promoting its stars like rock stars. Well, a lot of it sucked before that too, but at least the good stuff could get on the radio then. Now country music stations (most of whom use the slogan "Today's hot new country!") won't even touch Willie Nelson or Hank Williams Jr.

Have you heard his new CD? It's all cover songs, and he actually does a cover of a Depeche Mode song.

He's got a voice that transcends genres though. He is country, yet people that say they don't like country will still like him.

Grungetta of More Than Toast did a Cowboy Bebop video about Faye, and it was set to Brooks & Dunn - Rock My World (Little Country Girl)
