thats not always the case..
for example: Paradise Lost was very death metalish back in the day.. not fully death metal, but getting close to it, and with each CD they got a little bit lighter
thier riffs got more bearable.. thier guitars didn't sound so grungy and distorted, the singer sang clearly, and they finally found thier perfect sound in thier last CD "Symbol of My Life"
they started out with a sound they weren't good at, but by no means were a bad band, they found thier sound, and then they made gold with it
same with Endo, thier first CD "Evolve" sounded like a heavier RATM, but alot of thier songs weren't that good.. but the ones that were good were great.. but now they experimented with thier sound, and in "Songs for the Restless" thier upcoming album, they sound a whole lot better..
its all about experimenting.. and also, if every CD you make sounds the damn same, then the band won't want to make music anymore if not only for money which won't come anymore, since sound needs to evolve with the people.. it needs to adapt..
I think the people who complain most about sound changing are the people who don't want to change themselves.. sometimes you gotta change with the times without losing what you started with.. ex: Slayer.
but hey what do I know right? *waltz's off*
In the sky, the moon is bright;
Yet I can never reach it.
In my heart such sorrow dwells;
Remaining with me forever. ~Cao Cao (155-220)
