I knew that Blink 182 wasn't considered punk, but I honestly thought Green Day was. Oh well, doesn't change my opinion of either (B182's okay, GD's great).

I've heard people refer to the Kinks as "the first punk band". What do people here think of that statement?

you see, i hate going into conversations like, "BLINK IS SOOO PUNK AND LINKIN PARK ALMOST SAID FUCK ONCE BUT THEY'RE A CHRISTIAN GOD IS COOL!" but, when giant bags of ignorance kick in like catacylsadnmdsa's, i feel the need to open up multiple cans of pointless trivia. greenday is punk, not to the fullest extent of the word. BUT! the lead singer was rancid's guitar player for a couple years. i really consider that to be punk to almost the full extent of the word. green day doesn';t sell out, they're just not paranoid anti everything like ant-flag and pennywise. i love anti and penny, but they are retardedly paranoid when it comes to comercialism. greenday knows that if they want to get their message out, they have to go comercial.

by the way, i don't even like greenday, so don't go pinching my nose cause of rancid's shittiness

the term punk is used way to broadly, when you have bands like green day categorized with bands like dead kenedys its retarded. they are 2 completently different styles of music.
