Re: Issues with downloaded footage?
To be fair the ones who do that kinda shit are crazy about PERCEIVED quality but actually ruin it, most of the time. If there is a group who can fix something AND make it better at the same time, I'd like to meet them, but I've not seen this happen without secret access to the original masters yet.

Re: Hybrid DVD
I wouldn't hold much value in the timecodes from a random fansub group. Let's start with a dump or screenshot of the DGIndex info box output. Run it in both honour pulldown and ignore pulldown modes.

Re: Issues with downloaded footage?
Following on from what Zarx said, most rippers are really bad at it, and the ones who are good do weird things which will fuck you over later on. Easier if more annoying to just use legit footage even if it needs manual correction work. TBH most available downloadable footage is passable, but you ca...

Re: Bad Hybrid Footage
TDecimate isn't relevant to ghosting, it is to get rid of duplicate frames. You want to mess with the TFM settings instead. Might help if you post some screenshots and your encode script.

Re: Install UT Video Now
UTV for Mac will encode to AVI container soon as well. 64bit ASM still an issue though. Related, libav has a fully functional UTV decoder, and ffmpeg has a buggy encoder as well. Still, building x264 against a recent version of libav (via homebrew) results in x264 reading UTV natively, which is real...

Re: Suggestions needed on how to improve quality
To be fair, I still use DVD Decrypter for almost all my ripping; it gives better results than DVDFab on the stuff it actually works on. But then I still use DVD2AVI also.

Re: Call to Arms: AVTECH4
I think the point of a guide should be to make sure people actually understand what they're doing. IMO it is useless to talk about frameserving in a basics guide as that requires in-depth knowledge of video theory, which most readers do not actually have. What happens is you end up with a bunch of p...

Re: Call to Arms: AVTECH4
Just saying, there really needs to be some segmentation on "basics of ripping", "manual field matching of multiple framerate content in the same frame", and all the crap in between. Too many idiots trying to do complicated things, and too many nubs being frightened by the intermediate stuff so ignor...

Re: VirtualDub and new codecs
Lagarith depends on the content for filesize. Any averaging is based purely on the level of detail the most common anime footage has. There is no formular for Lagarith based on resolution or whatever. As for installing codecs, pretty much read the README file that came with any codec, and avoid all ...
