The One

On the way to NDK a few weeks ago, Koop and I had a long conversation on the plane about AMVs. One of the questions he asked me that made me stop and think was this (I'm paraphrasing): "If you had to show a single AMV to someone who knew nothing about them, which one would you show to best desc...

Re: Vanilla Rainbows & Comin Where I'm From (AWA Pro)

Been waiting for you to post this all day :P Not too crazy about Vanilla Rainbows, but I do really like Comin Where I'm From. Of all the Pro entries this one really stood out for the storytelling aspect, which is just phenomenal. It's also pretty cool just how well the music fits with the anime, I d...

Re: How have your favorite editors influenced you?

My style is but a shadow of theirs. This about sums it up. I think every editor draws on the ones that came before, whether intentionally or not. I know that over time I've adopted a lot of editing techniques that I picked up from some of my favorites (Megamom and Nostromo especially, for better or...

Re: So what's really important?

Would you be happy with your AMVs even if there was no way to share them with anyone else? Have you ever had the experience of putting up an announcement thread and watching it fall off the front page without a single reply? Yep. In the end, if you don't do this shit for yourself, then why even bot...

Re: Hidden gems

112716 Everyone knows JudgeHolden for his upbeat, often times fanservice-y amvs. Way back in the day though, he would also make some very out-of-the-ordinary drama videos that touched on some intense themes. My favorite out of his drama videos was A City Divided. While yes, it got considerably favo...

Re: has competition hurt this hobby?

Lately I'm wondering what's the purpose of editing nowadays. I remember when the purpose was the fun of editing and enjoying the works without anything else. Are you talking about in general or for yourself? If it's for yourself, that's a decision you make, and you just need to get back to that poi...

Re: has competition hurt this hobby?

I don't want to see this place go under so no, I'm not rushing to do away with contests or shut down anything going on here that people are enjoying. I'm just curious about why competition is so much more exciting (apparently) than whatever it was that used to inspire most people here to make 99% o...

Re: Waking Summer Dream (for Free Zone 2014)

Whoa dude. This was excellent. I too am not familiar with the anime, but it doesn't matter because the story here was just beautifully told. I like that you kept it simple...some of the effects, mainly the cookie-cutter ones, were not that great in my book, nor do I think they were all that necessar...

Re: The AWA 2014 Professional Awards Video Review Thread

#75 I had the idea for 75 for over 6 months as I love Les Friction (surviving member/brother of E.S. Posthumus) and after I finished my Attack on Badassdom and my NDK videos I thought why not make it. Of course 3 days before the deadline for AWA I showed it to Koop... he says he enjoyed it and then...

Re: Hidden gems

Watched through a few of these, will be getting around to most or all of them over time, but here are my thoughts on the ones I've watched... This AMV doesn't really do anything that you haven't seen before and isn't going to change your world, kind of falling right in between the silliness of "...

Re: The AWA 2014 Professional Awards Video Review Thread

What was with the Best of Show finalists? :? Most of the categories were pretty straightforward for me but there was nothing there that deserved Best in Show, IMO. Oh well, now we wait.
