Man...wow. Like many others, I had no idea he was battling cancer. Roll was a good man. I had the honor of competing against him in AMV Iron Chef at Kumoricon 2009. Last time I saw him was April at Sakura Con 2010. I'm so in shock right now. He will be missed.

I personally DO NOT like the idea of blind judging. As Bashar said, I also find it a bit far fetched that the creator's username is an issue.
